REGIONAL AND STATE-WIDE INITIATIVES and PARTNERSHIPS

State Department of Education -- Tennessee Teacher of the Year

For the last 4 years, the Niswonger Foundation has been the proud sponsor of the Tennessee Teacher of the Year Award. The Foundation’s goal is to recognize the profession’s best and brightest with substantial cash awards.

Tennessee School Board Association -- Prospective Superintendents Academy

In conjunction with the Tennessee School Board Association and the Tennessee Organization of School Superintendents , the Foundation created the first academy for prospective superintendents. This new training academy provides intensive and in-depth training for the unique demands of the superintendency.

East Tennessee State University -- Math Initiative

This project is designed to build a strong partnership between East Tennessee State University and five school districts in northeast Tennessee. Math teachers will be given the opportunity to participate in both summer training and follow-up professional development activities during the school year.

University of Tennessee – Leadership Preparation Academy

This academy will combine revised Tennessee Instructional Leadership Standards (TILS) along with the Interstate School Leadership Licensure Consortium standards (ISLLC) and the Southeastern Regional Education Board ( SREB) Leadership Curriculum to provide aspiring administrators a quality post-graduate program.

Tennessee Principals Association – Professional Development Initiative

In an effort to provide dynamic and timely professional development activities for school-site administrators, the Foundation has partnered with the State Department of Education and the Tennessee Principals Association to offer on-line professional development (TASL credit) opportunities.

Tennessee Organization of School Superintendents -- Professional Development Initiative

In an effort to provide dynamic and timely professional development activities for school superintendents , the Foundation has partnered with the State Department of Education and the Tennessee Organization of School Superintendents to offer on-line professional development opportunities.

Tennessee State Board of Education – eLearning Initiative

In conjunction with the Tennessee High School eLearning Initiative and the State Board of Education, the Niswonger Foundation is piloting a state-wide program to make available high quality, affordable e-Learning opportunities for students. eLearning Centers will be developed in each of the grand divisions of the state. The East Tennessee area will be served by Tennessee High School, Greeneville High School and Maryville High School. The Middle Tennessee Center will be located in Bedford County and Weakley County will house the West Tennessee Center.
